AAL Shipping Exceeds 95 % of ESG Targets in 2024 Sustainability Report
AAL Shipping’s 2024 Sustainability Report demonstrates attainment of 95 % of its ESG targets via the introduction of methanol-ready vessels, significant greenhouse gas reductions, enhanced workforce diversity, and robust anti-corruption measures, positioning the company as a leader in sustainable maritime logistics.
AAL Shipping has published its 2024 Sustainability Report in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative standards, revealing that the company met 95 % of its ESG objectives across global operations. This performance reflects AAL’s commitment to decarbonisation, social responsibility, and high governance standards within its project cargo and heavy-lift services.
In 2024, AAL introduced four new methanol-ready Super B-Class vessels, each rated at 32,000 DWT and equipped with advanced hull coatings and AI-driven route optimisation software, enabling increased cargo capacity per voyage and reduced overall sailings. Despite a larger fleet, AAL achieved a measurable decline in greenhouse gas emissions compared with its 2021 benchmarks, underscoring the effectiveness of its energy-efficiency initiatives.
On the social front, AAL reinforced its commitment to a culturally diverse workforce, expanded employee well-being programmes, and increased investment in community outreach. From a governance perspective, the company strengthened its anti-corruption framework, enhanced due diligence processes, and maintained active membership in the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network, reporting zero breaches in sanctions or bribery incidents during the reporting period.
Achieving 95 % of ESG targets signals to investors and clients that AAL adheres to best practices in sustainability, risk management, and ethical conduct, factors that increasingly influence financing decisions and commercial partnerships. Moreover, these results align with the International Maritime Organization’s net-zero ambitions and reinforce AAL’s reputation as a frontrunner in sustainable shipping operations.
Steward Chen, Research and Analytics Manager at AAL, described 2024 as a “major milestone in our decarbonisation journey,” noting that the Super B-Class vessels deliver both operational efficiency and significant environmental gains. Chairman Heinrich Schoeller added that “a responsible and sustainable approach underpins long-term value creation for customers, partners and communities”.
The report earned Silver honours at the Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards and was prepared with support from Grow Sustainability Consulting. It is publicly accessible on AAL Shipping’s corporate website.
