Eregli Shipyard has been awarded the contract to construct two escort tugboats with a minimum bollard pull of 130 tons each for the Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KEGM). These vessels will be the most powerful of their kind in Türkiye. The agreement was officially signed on May 5.

The 42-meter-long tugboats are designed for emergency response and escort duties in high-risk terminal operations. Each will feature an advanced off-ship firefighting system in compliance with Fire Fighting Ship 1 class requirements. The system, provided by Fire Fighting Systems (FFS), includes two engine-driven pumps and monitors capable of delivering 1,200 m³/h of water and 300 m³/h of foam.

To ensure safe maneuvering, the vessels will be equipped with a robust fendering layout, including cylindrical and W-block bow fenders, as well as D fenders along the sides.

Chairman of Med Marine Holding and Eregli Shipyard, Recai Hakan Şen, said the project holds special importance as it contributes directly to the safety of Turkish waters. The shipyard has previously delivered tailor-made vessels to clients worldwide and now aims to apply this expertise domestically.

Mustafa Bankaoğlu, Chairman and Director General of KEGM, emphasized that the project supports the Directorate’s mission to enhance navigational and environmental safety. He highlighted the importance of national and locally developed maritime projects and thanked Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu for his support.

This project further strengthens Türkiye’s domestic shipbuilding capabilities and reinforces the country’s focus on maritime safety and emergency preparedness.
