The vessel was officially named during a ceremony at Jiangnan Shipyard by Mrs. Giselle Kastrup, the wife of PIL CEO Lars Kastrup. According to the company, the name Kota Ebony symbolizes strength and elegance, reflecting the vessel’s design and operational capabilities.
Like its sister ships, Kota Ebony features an optimized hull form and high reefer capacity, making it suitable for Latin American trade. The vessel is also equipped with various efficiency and emissions-reduction features. It is expected to join PIL’s East Coast Latin America service soon.
PIL CEO Lars Kastrup stated that the addition of Kota Ebony strengthens the company’s service network and supports trade between China and Latin America.
He also noted that a fourth 14,000 TEU vessel is scheduled for delivery in the coming months. In addition, PIL has ordered 14 biomethane-capable dual-fuel vessels, which will be delivered progressively from 2025 onwards as part of its fleet renewal program. The company aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
