It is reinforcing Türkiye’s efforts to expand its naval presence and defense partnerships in Southeast Asia.
The MRSS is designed for a wide range of naval missions, including amphibious operations, logistics support, humanitarian aid, and search and rescue. It can also operate as a hospital ship, reflecting Türkiye’s focus on versatile naval platforms suitable for both combat and non-combat roles.
“This is our first time showcasing the MRSS at LIMA,” said STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz. “The platform is tailored to meet the Royal Malaysian Navy’s operational needs and offers flexible solutions for modern naval operations.”
The 153-meter vessel has a beam of 24 meters and a displacement of around 9,700 tons. It offers a 30-day endurance and over 8,000 nautical miles of range at a cruising speed of 14 knots, with a top speed exceeding 18 knots.
Key features include:
· Accommodation for 150 crew and up to 500 embarked troops
· An 800-square-meter tank deck capable of carrying 14 main battle tanks and nine amphibious assault vehicles
· Two 15-ton helicopter spots with hangar facilities
· Two 10-meter RHIBs deployable via A-type davits
· 630 tons of fuel and 215 tons of freshwater capacity
Armament includes a 76mm main gun, four 12.7mm remote-controlled weapon stations, and decoy launchers.
The MRSS unveiling follows STM’s growing footprint in the region. In 2023, STM began building three Ada-class corvettes for the Royal Malaysian Navy under the LMS Batch-2 program, with construction taking place in Türkiye.
As part of broader regional engagement, the Turkish Navy deployed the Ada-class corvette TCG Büyükada to LIMA 2025. The vessel left Foça Naval Base on April 19 and is on a deployment mission through mid-July, visiting several regional ports.
According to the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, the deployment aims to strengthen defense ties, promote Türkiye’s defense industry, and increase the Turkish Navy’s visibility in the Indo-Pacific.
STM, established in 1991 under the Defence Industry Executive Committee, supports Türkiye’s national defense capabilities through engineering, project management, and advanced technology solutions. The company operates in multiple domains including naval platforms, UAV systems, cybersecurity, radar systems, and satellite technologies, serving both public and private sectors with export-oriented strategies.
