Freudenberg Unveils XWAVE, a Modular Maritime Battery System to Support Vessel Decarbonization

Freudenberg e‑Power Systems (FEPS) has announced the upcoming introduction of XWAVE, a modular and stackable battery system engineered for use in fully electric and hybrid maritime vessels. Scheduled for availability in 2027, XWAVE marks a significant advancement in marine electrification, built upon over a decade of knowledge in maritime battery design.

The system’s foundation lies in FEPS’s proprietary Gen 3 SHP mid‑nickel, single‑crystal power cells. Developed in‑house, these cells offer high charge and discharge capabilities, competitive energy density, and extended cycle life—attributes essential for robust marine applications. Each 17 kWh, 132 V module can be connected in series up to 1,048 V and scaled with up to 24 parallel strings. This enables shipbuilders, naval architects, and integrators to tailor power and energy configurations to specific vessel layouts and mission profiles.

The XWAVE system also incorporates an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) and integrated telematics. These technologies provide continuous monitoring, balancing, and safety management, while offering real‑time performance insights through a web‑based portal. The modular design ensures efficient installation, seamless integration into existing vessel infrastructure, and optimal use of onboard space.
